Why railway exam uploads get rejected
A few causes come up repeatedly with RRB applications, and most of them trace back to the specs changing between cycles rather than a straightforward technical mistake.
- Reusing dimensions from an older RRB cycle. An applicant who kept a photo cropped for a previous NTPC or Group D drive sometimes uploads it again without checking whether the current notification asks for the same pixel size. RRB has revised these figures between cycles before, so an old file that worked last time isn't a safe assumption this time.
- Mixing up NTPC and Group D specs. These are separate notifications with separate application windows, and the stated photo dimensions aren't always identical between them. Cropping to the NTPC number when the form in front of you is actually the Group D one is an easy mistake during a busy application season.
- Portal errors near the deadline mistaken for a file problem. RRB portals see a surge of traffic in the final days before an application window closes. A submission that fails or times out under that load can look identical to a file size rejection, leading applicants to re-crop and re-compress a photo that was never the actual issue.
- Zone-specific portal quirks. A single CEN can span several zonal RRBs (Mumbai, Chennai, Bhopal, and others), each running its own application website. A file that uploads cleanly on one zone's portal has occasionally thrown an error on another, even under the same stated notification limits.
